Heat was inspired by post-pandemic lockdown resurgence of physical touch. Figures dancing joyfully and expressively were painted using references from Quigley’s family and friends in intimate scenes of celebration immediately following the pandemic lockdown. “Heat” was the first in a series of diptychs explored by Quigley in her figural work. The intense saturation of this warm color palette was developed using many thin layers of paint, a deliberate choice to mirror the heat felt energetically and physically from human connection.
