SPECTACLE

Spectacle is somewhat of a divergence from Quigley’s preference for vibrance and soft, blended layers. The heavier marks and white figures were created almost entirely with oil pigment sticks with minimal blending. The central white figure was painted in reference to a small dead insect that was twirling above Quigley’s head for weeks in her garage. Quigley became obsessed with this peculiar scene, finding it to be evoke some notions of a spiritual omen. The visual brutality of this piece, and the emotional discomfort that was released by Quigley through creating it, signify a processing of another visual brutality, in the images spread of victims of the ongoing Palestinian Genocide.
