The crystal doorknob motif returns in “Door”, a piece that is anchored by visual symbols of domesticity and a spiritual world. A balance of dancing light and the complete absence of it becomes the major story of this piece. A cleaner, more linear style is utilized for the domestic structure of the door, wall, and doorknob. The scale is quite large and intentionally magnified to the doorknob. Against the deep darkness of the gap between the door and the wall, the doorknob is not just reflecting light, but the only source of it. To Quigley, doors act as a dream-like symbol of a point of entry and exit in a spiritual sense, often leading you into an unknown space away from the familiar.
