ROOTS
“Roots” is a smaller scale intaglio print created by Quigley during her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology. This piece references a real-life scene in which a tree was uprooted after a heavy rainstorm near Quigley’s home. Quigley’s style in illustrating this Zinc plate became extremely detailed, attempting to pull the viewers interest to the intricately entangled roots of the tree and underground in front of the house. In this way, the roots act almost as a monstrous visual defense for the simple house and dark woods behind it.
